Married At First Sight’s Bryce Ruthven and Melissa Rawson expose fame-seeking co-stars live on Today Extra – including one groom who is definitely not ‘there for the right reasons’
Channel Nine execs made a point of saying at last year’s Upfronts that the new batch of Married At First Sight participants were ‘genuine’ and not simply looking for fame.
But newlyweds Melissa Rawson and Bryce Ruthven seem to think some of their co-stars are more interested in gaining Instagram followers than finding love.
The couple, both 31, told Today Extra on Thursday they were disappointed by a few of their fame-hungry castmates.

Bryce said: ‘[The] first thing I noticed was how genuine about 98 per cent of the guys were coming through.
‘But there was one I don’t think is there for the right reasons and I make no secret of that throughout the experiment,’ he added.
When asked to elaborate, Bryce said: ‘He looks like Eminem… we’ll go with that.’
Shots fired! The couple, both 31, told Today Extra on Thursday they were disappointed by some of their fame-hungry castmates. Bryce made a point of saying that one groom who ‘looks like Eminem’ wasn’t there for the right reasons. He was likely referring to Sam Carraro (pictured)
The only groom who resembles the American rapper is 32-year-old clothing brand owner Sam Carraro, who is paired with Coco Stedman.
Melissa added: ‘I could definitely see that some people may have come on just looking for fame.
‘It’s really hard because when you do come on the experiment for really genuine reasons it feels like you’re fighting a losing battle and kind of defeats the purpose.’

Bryce’s job as a radio announcer in Canberra saw him rub shoulders with a string of reality stars last year.
He interviewed several cast members from last year’s season of Married At First Sight, including Josh Pihlak and Michael Goonan.
Daily Mail Australia reported in September that Bryce had actually reached out to former MAFS participants to ask them for advice about applying for the show.

One former cast member said they were surprised to see Bryce on the Nine reality show because he was well aware of the negative experience they’d had.
‘Off air Bryce kept asking questions about whether it was worth signing up to the show and said he was really keen to give it ago,’ they claimed.
